17 dead and dozens injured left the most tragic attack in high school attack

Police responded to an active shooter situation at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. An informed source about the events says ‘there are many people who have been shot and the shooter  is possibly a former pupil.’

Rick Folbaum of CBS4 was speaking by text message with a school pupil hiding in a closet.

‘Suddenly there was a really strong noise, people are crying in the closet,’ wrote the student and then asked when the police came to help them.

The school was put into custody, but around 3pm some students were coming out of school with their hands up, some of them crying. The officers ask the people to avoid the area. President Donald Trump found out about the school shooting.

‘We’re monitoring the situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, ‘wrote the deputy White House press secretary Lindsay Walters. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a statement about the shooting. In the last checkpoint, he was on his way to Parkland.

The suspect was Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the school who had been expelled. He escaped with fleeing students but is now in police custody.

Local media report that Mr Cruz bought his gun, an AR-15, legally and kept it locked away in the house of the family he was staying with, following his adoptive mother’s death in November.

Neighbours and friends said Mr Cruz was known to shoot at chickens, and talk about shooting lizards, squirrels and frogs.
